The Michigan Department of Transportation will close one lane on the Portage Lake Lift Bridge next week to complete safety inspections of the infrastructure. Next Monday and Tuesday MDOT will close the outside northbound lane during daytime hours. The northbound sidewalk section will remain closed. A pedestrian detour has been placed to direct commuters to the other side of the bridge. Earlier in the year the state department completed the elevator and installed false decking under the bridge as a part of a 4 3 million dollar infrastructure project. Work next week will only conduct safety checks to ensure the Portage Lake lift bridge’s reliable operation on US41 M26 highways.
