The Michigan Department of Transportation will suspend roundabout work in Ishpeming for the winter. Last week the state’s transportation department ended work for 2023 for its 6.4 million dollar infrastructure project that will construct a roundabout and widen a bridge over the Carp River. The project additionally includes drainage work, installation of guardrails, retaining walls, lighting, signs, and road markings. With the North Lakeshore Drive detour suspended and temporary lights from the country lane removed, all lanes on US-41/M-28 are open. MDOT began work on the project this past September and has plans to complete the work by October 2024. When work resumes in the spring, crews will limit traffic to a single lane in each direction. Additional local detours are expected after work resumes. Crews will resume work in the spring as weather permits. Find more information here.
