Mark Totten to step down as U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Michigan

US district attorney for western Michigan Mark Totten will resign from his role next week. Totten served the western district of Michigan as the highest-ranking attorney trying federal cases. He was appointed to the role in 2021 by President Biden, and confirmed in May 2022.

He says he’s incredibly proud of the work his team completed to protect the public. Totten leads the district attorney’s office to win cases against child exploitation, gun violence, public corruption, consumer fraud, and drug poisoning. One notable case that Totten tried involving Upper Peninsula communities included achieving guilty verdicts for Samuel and Samson Ogsohsi. The Nigerian brothers were extradited to the United States for sexual exploitation crimes involving minors.
