The Bridgefest Parade has many spectators. People line the streets in Hancock, on the lift bridge, and in Houghton.
The current route of the parade leads the floats backwards down Quincy street, across the lift bridge, and backwards down Shelden Avenue in Houghton.
While there are many spectating, there are still those who will travel during this time, so traffic will be diverted.
Hancock will begin detouring traffic around the parade float line-up area at about 5:30 or 6pm.
Hancock Street will be two-way, and those coming from Dollar Bay will be diverted under the bridge, up to Tezuco Street, and then follow the detours according to their destination.
The lift bridge will host the parade on the south-bound half, while the north-bound half of the bridge will turn into two-way single-lane traffic.
In Houghton, police will be urging the public to remove their car from parking on Shelden avenue between 4-9p.m.
Police will close the parade route at 6:45.
There will be no traffic downtown, so the north-bound traffic on US-41 will be rerouted onto MacInnes Drive, and onto Sharon Avenue.
Montezuma Avenue will be open until the parade is right before Shelden Avenue.
The Houghton Police are still working on a route to allow the public to access the waterfront and Ray Kestner park, but a signed route will be in place by the time of the parade.
The police want this parade to be safe, so they ask the public to stay on sidewalks during the parade, and to not go into traffic lanes. Guardians are asked to keep an eye on children to make sure they don’t chase any thrown candy into the traffic lanes. Those in the parade are asked to hand candy to the spectators.
