NHL

The Detroit Red Wings’ game against the New York Rangers that was scheduled for tonight has been postponed because of the NHL’s COVID-19 pause. Detroit’s next scheduled game is Wednesday against the Islanders in New York. Coverage will begin at 7:15 on 99.3 The Lift.

In an effort to reduce future schedule disruptions, the league is making some procedure changes. Like last season, each team will be allowed to have a taxi squad of up to six players. Teams will also be allowed to make emergency recalls from the minors to cover COVID-19 absences. The changes will be in effect at least until the all-star break early in February.

NBA

The Detroit Pistons were wiped out by the San Antonio Spurs 144-109 last night. Five Pistons, including Cade Cunningham, missed the game because of COVID-19 protocols. Jerami Grant and Kelly Olynyk were also unavailable because of other injuries, and head coach Dwane Casey was away for personal reasons. Hamidou Diallo scored 28 points for Detroit, and Saddiq Bey added 23.

The Pistons host the New York Knicks Wednesday.

NFL

Yesterday…
• The Detroit Lions fell to the Atlanta Falcons 20-16. Riley Patterson kicked three field goals. Subbing for quarterback Jared Goff, Tim Boyle completed 24 of 34 passes for 187 yards and a touchdown. A late drive that could have won the game for Detroit ended when Boyle’s pass to Kalif Raymond was intercepted at the one yard line with 33 seconds remaining.
• The Dallas Cowboys mauled the Washington Football Team 56-14 in the evening contest.
