High School
In high school track Friday, Lake Linden-Hubbell swept their Lakes Invitational event.
At the women’s meet, Chassell finished second, followed by Hancock, Dollar Bay, Jeffers and Baraga. The Lakes’ Laura Lyons won the 100-meter, 200-meter and 400-meter runs, and the long jump. Lela Rautiola from Chassell won the 1600-meter and 3200-meter runs.
At the men’s meet, Chassell finished second, followed by Hancock, Dollar Bay, Baraga and Jeffers. Steven Suhonen of the Lakes won the 110-meter hurdles, the 300-meter hurdles, the 3200-meter run and the shot put. Dollar Bay’s Brendan LeClaire took the 1600-meter run, the 3200-meter run, and the pole vault. Hancock’s Alex Dewald won the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes.

MLB
Michael Fulmer pitched eight strong innings, as the Detroit Tigers defeated the Oakland Athletics 7-2 Friday night. Fulmer went eight innings, scattering eight hits while while striking out nine. Victor Martinez singled home a pair of runs in the second inning, and Jim Adduci drove in three with a bases-loaded triple in the sixth.
The Tigers play at Oakland again tonight. Jordan Zimmermann will start against Jesse Hahn. Pregame coverage will begin at 8:40 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3, WCCY.
Tigers second baseman Ian Kinsler missed Friday’s game because of a tight hamstring. Manager Brad Ausmus said that Kinsler might not return to the lineup until the team begins a series Tuesday in Arizona. Outfielder J.D. Martinez began a rehab assignment with the Class-A Lakeland Tigers Friday night. He had two hits as the designated hitter. Martinez will try to play some innings in the outfield tonight. He’s recovering from a sprained right foot.
The Milwaukee Brewers collected seven hits, but couldn’t score, as they fell to the Pittsburgh Pirates 4-0 Friday night. The game was scoreless when rain forced a nearly two-and-a-half hour delay. Rob Scahill took over on the mound for starter Jimmy Nelson when play resumed, and gave up all four Pittsburgh runs over two innings of work.
The Brewers will continue that series at Pittsburgh tonight. Matt Garza will pitch against Gerrit Cole.
NHL
In the NHL playoffs last night…
– The Blues got past the Predators 2-1. Nashville leads that series 3-2.
– The Ducks edged the Oilers 4-3 in double overtime. Anaheim leads that series 3-2.
Today…
– The Capitals host the Penguins. Pittsburgh leads that series 3-1.
– The The Senators entertain the Rangers. That set is tied 2-2.
NBA
In the NBA playoffs last night…
– The Cavaliers downed the Raptors 115-94. Cleveland leads that series 3-0.
– The Spurs defeated the Rockets 103-92. San Antonio leads that set 2-1.
Tonight…
– The Jazz host the Warriors. Golden State leads that series 2-0.
Finlandia
The Finlandia University softball team is seeded first in the inaugural American Collegiate Athletic Association tournament this weekend in Canton, New York. The Lions will open the double-elimination tourney against fourth seed SUNY-Delhi today at noon. Maine-Presque Isle and SUNY-Canton are the other two teams in the competition.
