Local Firefighter Honors First Responders and Victims of 9/11 at the 12th Annual Stair Climb at Lambeau Field

Never Forget. Today marks the 23rd year of remembrance in honor of the lives lost during the 9/11 terrorist attacks. Over the weekend in Green Bay, the 12th annual stair climb occurred. Memorializing the 110-story buildings, with volunteers ringing a bell at the 78th floor mark. The highest floor any firefighter reached on September 11th, 2001. One of this year’s participants included Laurium Firefighter Ryan Salani.

“For me as a firefighter, well volunteer, walking those steps, it just, it kept going through my mind, like what those professionals in the big cities and then just what those guys went through that day. I mean, I went just in my bunker gear. I didn’t have an air pack or anything like that with me. And it was, it was a workout. I mean, it was, I can only imagine what it was like. And then after we ring the bell on the 78th floor, they, if you want to, you can end it there, or else you can finish your lap or on the field. They have it set up. So it ends up being the 110 floors of the Twin Towers at the time. And you can finish it off as the help carrying those 343 firefighters to the top of the stairs or the top of the building. So yeah, it was pretty, it was pretty crazy and pretty cool to be able to experience all that.” – Ryan Salani, Volunteer Firefighter, Village of Laurium Fire Department

Salani adds that it was an honor to walk in the steps of the many first responders who rushed into chaos those years ago.
