Local 4-H Youth Participate in Michigan State University’s Exploration Days

Five local 4-H Club members join other Upper Peninsula participants at Exploration Days at Michigan State University. Last month five Houghton – Keweenaw County 4-H youth traveled downstate with other western Upper Peninsula youth to Exploration Days which helps kids discover career pathways while still in middle school and high school. During the MSU pre-college program’s five days, students had opportunities to explore over 200 different sessions.

Students from the local area participated in activities with the search and rescue K-9s, explored mental health, and home repair and maintenance, as well as joined activities for acting improvement, swine, farm entrepreneurship, and with the National Superconduction Cyclotron Laboratory. During the trip, the western Upper Peninsula youth also enjoyed a stop through Chicago at the Shedd Aquarium and the Field Natural History Museum. Houghton Keweenaw  4-H program coordinator Anne Kretschmann says that the program continues to see high participation in adventures like Exploration Days thanks to opportunities to build life skills and explore hobbies and passions.
