Little Brothers Friends of the Elderly Prepares for A Delicious Christmas Dinner

Little Brothers Friends of the Elderly have less than a week to put the final touches on organizing another fantastic holiday dinner this Christmas. Next Monday the non-profit serving seniors in the Copper Country will serve more than 1,000 meals throughout five counties. Seniors should expect a full meal and plenty of sweet treats.

“At the site we have music. There are lots of community members there. It’s a great spot to socialize and see everyone that you know. And have a good Christmas.”
– Danielle Dolby, Activity Coordinator, Little Brothers Friends of the Elderly

Each meal site in Baraga, Houghton, Ontonagon, and Marquette will need plenty of help from dedicated volunteers. Little Brothers says that many slots have been filled for serving seniors. However, each meal needs help before and after the meal for preparation and clean up. Activity Coordinator Danielle Dolby with Little Brothers adds that the organization could also use help with delivering meals to seniors from meal delivery sites.

“On Christmas, we need the prepping of our meals. So even if you’re not a good chef, you can help us we chopping some stuff. We also need help with clean up after. the meal. And last we need some help with meal deliveries.” – Danielle Dolby, Activity Coordinator, Little Brothers Friends of the Elderly

Community members who want to help Little Brothers on Christmas, but have holiday plans also have a way to get involved in the meal. During holiday meals residents regularly donate dessert items such as cookies, cakes, and snack bars. Dolby Adds that they are still accepting cookies, but the sites need more cakes and dessert bars at the moment.

Seniors still have time to make reservations for sit-down sites and meal deliveries. Little brothers will pick elderly friends up and drive them to meal sites for those seniors who cannot drive but want to spend time among others. Little Brothers also ask volunteers and donors please sign up for volunteering before this Friday. Please call the LBFE Hancock office at 906 482 6944 to sign up to volunteer or schedule a reservation.
