Little Brothers Feeds a Thousand Thanks to Hundreds of Volunteers for the Thanksgiving

Tomorrow families will gather around the table and share a Thanksgiving day fest. Maybe watch a football game or two, and surely take a turkey day nap. But for many seniors in the Upper Peninsula finding companionship on the holiday may not be as simple as getting in the car and traveling a couple of hours to relatives. But tomorrow seniors in the Copper Country and Marquette will have the chance to meet with friends and the Little Brothers Thanksgiving congregate meal sites

“The meals at the site down sites will start at 1 pm. And all of the delivery sites, deliveries will begin at noon. So you can expect your meal between noon and 2 pm. ” – Gail Ross, Communications Director, Little Brothers Friends of the Elderly

Dinner will come with a slice of turkey, of course, stuffing, cranberry sauce, mashed and sweet potatoes, and much more. Plus with the Little Brothers dedicated volunteers to serve dinner, thanksgiving sounds like a great time for anyone. Little Brothers will still need a few volunteers to help with serving Thanksgiving to seniors and should contact the organization’s Hancock office.

“Right now if you’re elderly and you’re interested in getting a meal. Please call us. We will reserve a seat at a sit-down site. Or if you want your meal delivered we can do that as well. You just have to be 60 and older. And if you have a caretaker, we’re happy to offer them a meal as well.” – Gail Ross, Communications Director, Little Brothers Friends of the Elderly

There are congregate sites located all over the Keweenaw Peninsula. And are set up in areas to make it easier for seniors to have a quick trip to dinner. Volunteers interested in joining Thanksgiving with little brothers or friends of the elderly can find more information here. Seniors who have yet to reserve a place at a congregate holiday meal site should contact Little Brother’s friends of the elderly at 906 482 6944.
