Verlander

MLB
The Detroit Tigers lost their fourth straight game Friday night, falling 6-3 to the Minnesota Twins. Detroit built a 3-0 lead, and Justin Verlander had thrown five straight scoreless innings. But, Verlander lost his control in the sixth, and loaded the bases with nobody out. By the time the inning ended, he and reliever Joe Jiménez had given up all six Minnesota runs. James McCann homered for Detroit.

Cabrera

The Tigers continue that series at Minnesota this afternoon. Matthew Boyd will start against Adalberto Mejia. Pregame coverage will begin at 1:45 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3, WCCY.

Tigers’ first baseman Miguel Cabrera left Friday’s game in the seventh inning with a right groin strain. He will be evaluated today. Detroit is already without shortstop Jose Iglesias, who was put on the seven-day concussion list after taking a blow to the head in Wednesday’s game.

Peralta

Wily Peralta struggled, as the Milwaukee Brewers lost to the St. Louis Cardinals 6-3 Friday. Peralta gave up all six St. Louis runs over four innings. Ryan Braun knocked his sixth home run of the season. The Brewers host the Cardinals again this evening. Chase Anderson will pitch against Lance Lynn.

Nieuwenhuis

The Brewers added some relief help yesterday by recalling Brent Suter from Colorado Springs. To make room, thet designated Kirk Nieuwenhuis for assignment. If he clears waivers, Nieuwenhuis could accept an assignment to Colorado Springs, or could choose to become a free agent. The Brewers also announced that Matt Garza will return from the disabled list to start Monday’s game.

Finlandia
The Finlandia University baseball team swept a doubleheader at North Central University Friday. The Lions took the first game 3-2 in 10 innings. Adam Froelich’s single drove in Patrick Coles with the winning run. Cole Howard pitched all 10 innings, and struck out 10 to get the win. In the second game, Froelich threw a three hit shutout, as the Lions pulled out a 2-0 victory. Those teams play another doubleheader in Coon Rapids today.
