Detroit took the early advantage in the second inning, on a two-run triple by Andrew Romine, and an RBI single by Nicholas Castellanos. They added single runs in the fourth and fifth innings. Oakland came back, slugging three home runs off Tigers starter Jordan Zimmermann, who gave up four runs before leaving in the sixth inning. The score remained 5-4 until the bottom of the ninth, when Detroit closer Francisco Rodríguez got the first two outs, then gave up a walk, a double, and a two-run single to Adam Rosales. It was his third loss and third blown save of the season.
