Library looking for new board members

The Portage Lake District Library’s Board of Trustees will have three openings soon. The vacancies must be filled by two residents of the City of Houghton and one from Portage Township. To submit an application, those interested should turn in the required paperwork to their respective municipal clerk. Documents can be found online.

One of the first orders of business for the new members, once appointed, would be to hire a new executive director. Edit: [The library is in the process of looking for a new director but no replacement has been named as of yet.] Dillon Geshel left last year to head the Superiorland Library Coop, which services several different locations throughout the Upper Peninsula. Susan Autio has been promoted to interim director from circulation manager in the meantime. The board approved a pay raise to $21 per hour while she serves in that capacity. Geshel had been director for six years before stepping down in the fall.
