League of Women Voters of the Copper Country Gathering on Campus for Equal Pay Day

As of International Women’s Day last Friday,  a female employee will still not have met equal pay day. Equal Pay Day in 2024 for women will come tomorrow. Each year Equal Pay Day marks the number of days beyond the normal 365, that a woman would have to work to equal that of a male counterpart on average. March 12th will represent that mark in 2024. The gap between what each gender has been able to earn on average has come closer since the start of Equal Pay Day in 1996 when it was found that a woman would have to work another 102 days of the year.

Tomorrow the League of Women Voters of the Copper Country will celebrate Equal Pay Day while on campus at Michigan Tech. There the ladies will distribute some informational pamphlets, and cookies, and spread awareness for equal pay. On March 12th the League encourages residents, students, and workers to wear the color red in solidarity with equal pay for equal work.
