Laurium will Host the NMU Rural Leadership Fellowship Program, and Graduate Student Rachel Raak

In 2023 Laurium participated in the CEDAM fellowship program. The position helped provide administrative support to the village staff and worked on various projects within Laurium.

This year Laurium will gain another fully funded fellow through the Northern Michigan University Rural Leadership Fellowship Program. Rachel Raak will join the village’s team in early September. She has been working toward completing a master’s degree in administration of Outdoor Recreation and nature-based Tourism at NMU. While working with Laurium’s village manager Ian Lewis and other village leadership she will help implement the Laurium 5-year Parks and Recreation Plan. In addition to working on other projects for the village. The Rural Leadership Fellowship program has host municipalities that offer engaging opportunities for current master’s program students to gain experience working in administrative roles and working with public administration functions. Raak will start with Laurium Spetember 9th.
