Laurium looking for a mechanic

The Village of Laurium has reposted a listing for a mechanic. Administrator Ed Vertin says applicants can expect to repair and maintain a wide variety of vehicles within the municipal fleet.

All the village vehicles, gas engine and diesel, heavy equipment. It’s posted on the Michigan Works! jobs site under Laurium Village.

The previous call brought zero resumes. Those interested will have a chance to see the village vehicles up close Saturday, July 31st. Touch-A-Truck is a family friendly event that allows residents and children to see everything from a ladder truck to snow removal equipment, and learn more about it from the men and women who use it every day.

The posting can be found here. Starting salary is roughly $20 per hour, and two to five years of experience with heavy equipment repair is preferred as well as welding knowledge.

Vertin says the village is also beginning to look for its next administrator.

My position will be open at the end of October. I am retiring.

Vertin initially announced his intention to step down months ago.
