A surprise snow storm covered the Copper Country the last two days. Snow total estimates have ranged between 10 and 14 inches, breaking past the area’s predicted snowfall of a measly 2-4 inches. Though the region’s winter snowfall still lags behind what is normally seen by this time of the season. Keweenaw County’s road commission has cleared about 50 inches less of snow this year than last, as of this past Sunday. November and December snowfall this year was more in line with what the Copper Country experienced in 2021. During the month of January, Keweenaw County has received approximately 23.5 inches of snow this year. Much of the lack of snowfall this season can be attributed to the lack of snowfall this month alone.
