Late Season Snow Means More Shoveling

Mother Nature has a weird sense of humor. About 10 inches of snowfall was accounted for in Keweenaw County in the last two days. The recent snowstorm delivered some of the heaviest and wettest snow this season. Many may have plowed or shoveled some of the snow yesterday, however, the plow trucks may have left a sort of gift at the end of the driveway. If you plan to clean off the front porch, driveway, or sidewalk today remember to lift with your knees suggests Aspires Keweenaw Physical Therapist Beau Dupris

With the yooper scooper you have two hands that are right in front of you with a shovel you’re obviously off to the side. You want to use your hips and your knees to bend when you do lift the snow and you want to keep your back relatively straight. That’s the biggest thing when you are lifting a load. You want to have good posture and by bending your knees and your hips you’re going to transfer the stress to those muscles in that region of the body.” – Beau Bupris, Asprius Keweenaw, Physical Therapist

Winter hasn’t quite left the area yet. Weather predictions expect some snow accumulation over the next couple of days mixed with rain and above-freezing temperatures. Find tips for shoveling snow and links local weather forecasts below.
