L’Anse trees decorated for a good cause

If you stroll down Broad and Main Streets in L’Anse, you’ll see roughly 40 trees decorated for a great cause. Village Manager Bob LaFave says customers can vote for their favorites by leaving a monetary donation in a box kept near the front door of each participating establishment.

Individuals, when they’re patronizing that business, can leave a donation in a jar, or container they’ll have at their counter. For the value of essentially a quarter equals one vote.

The top three entries win a prize. The rest of the proceeds raised are given to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, a Catholic charity dedicated to helping the poor.

LaFave says the 40 entries represents an excellent participation rate for the contest. Each tree is roughly three to four feet tall. L’Anse also hosts Light Up Baraga County, which was held on December 11th. Meadowbrook Arena was one of the host facilities for the first ever Frozen Cup last weekend.

From my understanding it was a big success and I know they are looking forward on building on that next year, as well. KInd of another fun way to help people embrace the winter season.

LaFave says the packed schedule has been the perfect way to celebrate the holiday and beginning of winter.
