Registered in 2020, the Upper Peninsula Libertarian Party is set to expand its footprint in the Copper Country by bringing its convention to Baraga County. The event will happen from 11 AM to 5 PM at the Freemason Lodge on River Road in L’Anse. Local political officials will be included in the proceedings. Prosecuting Attorney Joseph O’Leary is the keynote speaker, taking the stage at 1:00.
O’Leary says he has run as both a Republican and a Libertarian in his career. He intends to talk about basic libertarian themes, ideas he says are gaining momentum in the Upper Peninsula. O’Leary expects a recent trip across the border to play a part in his address.
The Upper Peninsula Libertarian Party is made up of new and existing members of the state Libertarian Party. It caucused last July to select a nominee for President of the United States. This will be the branch’s first-ever convention.
