Two long-awaited street paving projects in L’Anse are nearing completion. At last night’s council meeting, village manager Bob LaFave said most of the paving on Baraga Avenue has already been completed. Paving on L’Anse Avenue should begin today. Work on both streets should be completed by early next week.
LaFave also announced that the Michigan Department of Natural Resources will provide funding for upgrades at the marina.
The foam base of the current floating dock has been damaged by burrowing animals. The new wall will provide an area for visitors to sit and view the bay, as well as protecting the marina from debris that has been washing in because of high water levels.
Village crews will soon replace a culvert under Hornet Way. LaFave said the original plastic pipe has collapsed. It will be replaced by a concrete culvert. Hornet Way was originally supposed to be a low-use egress route behind the L’Anse school complex. It has received significantly more traffic since the new athletic complex was built.
