L’Anse manager honored for utility work

Preliminary work on a long-awaited street paving project in the village of L’Anse is underway. At last night’s council meeting, Manager Bob LaFave said storm drain renovations are beginning this week on L’Anse and Baraga Avenues. The streets will remain open to traffic through the upcoming holiday weekend, with full construction starting next week.

At last evening’s brief meeting, council members saluted LaFave on his receipt of the Larry Hobart Seven Hats Award. The honor was presented last week at the American Public Power Association’s national conference in Orlando. It recognizes a manager who performs a variety of duties in communities of 2,500 or fewer electric meters. Village president Ron Ervast noted that the honor goes beyond LaFave’s work with the L’Anse Village Electrical Utility.

It’s not only pertaining to power, it’s pertaining to everything he’s done over the last 13 years here.

LaFave said the award recognizes the efforts of a lot of people.

I can’t do it without having a great staff and a board that will let me work on those things, so I really do appreciate that.

In the past 13 years, LaFave has helped bring in more than $21 million in projects to the village, including water and sewer infrastructure projects, road improvements, replacement of the Falls River Bridge, WiFi service, and a community solar program with access for income-qualified participants.
