Lancour and Paul added to the Hancock Public Schools Board of Education

Emily Lancour and Taylor Paul will join the Hancock Public School Board of Education. At last night’s special meeting, the board reviewed applications from several candidates to fill the two vacancies on the board. Emily Lancour is a former teacher at the school, and mother of Board of Education secretary Michael Lancour.

“She has served on many committees and unions. She is retired and has a flexible schedule. She’s got 25 years of teaching experience. And her son Michael is currently a board trustee. She likes to do photography, and she is a published author.” Catherine Jordan, Board of Education President, Hancock Public Schools

School Board President Catherine Jordan did address any potential conflict of interest in the voting process after asking the Michigan Association of School Boards for clarification.

Taylor Paul has experience in …., with children enrolled in the school district.

“She’s an alumnus of Hancock Public Schools. She says she can bring fresh eyes. And can bring the viewpoint of the young families in our district because she is a young mother herself. Both new members will join the rest of the board of education during its august regular board meeting next week. The school board needed to select new members to the board in time for the regular meeting. As the board of education has number of action items to vote on ahead of the start of the 2023-2024 school year. That meeting will take place on Monday August 21st at 5 pm, at the High school and middle school campus.

Additionally the district approved several staff transitions; Adding four new staff, a facilities manager and three teachers. The board also approved three resignations, two teachers and a long term substitute.
