The Keweenaw Peninsula has many people concerned for its environment and protecting the region’s natural resources. One of the most active groups in recent years, includes the Keweenaw Outdoor Recreation Coalition.

The organization works throughout the year to bring together individuals, businesses, and community organizations to secure permanent access to recreation opportunities in the Keweenaw peninsula. A featured event has the group’s members take part in clean up days. With groups of volunteers spread throughout the region cleaning up former dump sites, beaches, and recreation area. During the clean up opportunities, volunteers have removed several tons of refuse from beaches and forests.
