Kinterra Capital Corporation visits the White Pine Mine location to review its opportunities with the Highland Copper Company.
Late last week the two groups visited their White Pine North project to meet with stakeholders and continue ongoing conversations with local communities. Highland Copper leadership say they believe the visit with Kinterra Capital is an important step forward with the project, to ensuring communities the project is developed responsibly and sustainably. Highland Copper estimates the White Pine North Project could reap 2.1 billion pounds of copper over an estimated 23 year operation.
The project’s leaders are working to gain required permits through the state of Michigan for the site, with plans to begin preparing the location in 2025. Followed by mine construction in 2026, and a proposed start to production in 2029. The White Pine North Project is located in Ontonagon County, approximately five miles from Lake Superior, and covers an 11,000 acres. With an estimated 29,15 acres of mineral rights.
The former mining operation at White Pine closed in 1995, after producing 4.5 billion pounds of copper. Highland Copper came into ownership of the site in July 2021, after acquiring it from the Copper Range Company.
