Key Ingredients Shines a Light on Local Food and Music

Key ingredients return to fill the streets and music. And event goer’s stomachs. Starting at 6 pm tonight Quincy Street will shut down and participants will freely walk around downtown Hancock. Taking in a summer evening in the copper country. Owner of 5th and Elm Boone Fiala says that before their move into Hancock, it was fun to see Hancock’s small business earn a spotlight each summer. And now as a business owner that participated in the last couple of years, it’s been more fun interacting with the community.

This will be our second year involved in it in Hancock since making our move over there. It seems like a fun event having participated as a part of the public before. So last year we had kind of a simplified version, where we just had some food out front. And this year we are taking part in some music after the street events. We’re looking forward to incorporating that and seeing how it goes. – Boone Fiala, Owner, 5th and Elm

Hancock DDA Coordinator Todd Gast adds that the music scene in the copper country has some hidden gems. Key ingredients find space for several sounds and musicians to play along the street. Often found near one of the stops for a bite to eat.

Bob Hiltunen and his friends are going to be doing some jazz at the new Keweenaw Co-Op site. We’ve got Vanessa Dulong, she’s become a fan favorite here in the city of Hancock, and she’s going to be at Sunflower Books and Coffee. Bling Crosby will play here at the Quincy Green. We’ve got a lot of fun entertainment. – Todd Gast, DDA Coordinator, City of Hancock

The family-friendly event includes treats from local restaurants such as La Cantina, Giffin Café, Sunflower Books and Coffee, Copper Shores Meals on Wheels, KC Bonkers, and more. After Key Ingredients ends at 8 pm, 5th and Elm hosts the Keweenaw Songwriters Night for those sticking around the city. As a reminder, Hancock police will begin shutting down Quincy Street at 5:30 pm. Please move your vehicle before the department begins placing road barriers. Key Ingredients runs from 6 pm to 8 pm tonight.
