Unseasonably warm weather has caused snowmobile clubs to use more caution when determining if they will send out crews to groom trails each day. The warm temperatures and sunshine yesterday, forced the Keweenaw Snowmobile Club to hold their trail groomers back, with plans to reassess the situations in morning, today. The Keweenaw Snowmobile Club does not make such decisions lightly, as they know what keeping the trails in great condition means for the tourism economy of the Keweenaw Peninsula. Part of the issue deals with not enough time over night for the trails to freeze again after a day full of riders. The club is in contact with the Department of Natural Resources to continually assess trail conditions and needs as the spring gets closer. The bouts of recent temperatures continue to make trails more difficult to maintain, and makes for a rougher ride for snowmobilers. The Keweenaw snowmobile club hopes that the weather forecast of cooler nights ahead holds out for their crews to get back to trail grooming.
