MLB
J.D. Martinez’ solo homer in the ninth inning lifted the Detroit Tigers to a 4-3 victory over the Los Angeles Angels Saturday night. Martinez had stroked a two-run homer earlier, in just his second game back after more than a month on the disabled list. Starter Daniel Norris pitched into the sixth inning. giving up two runs on seven hits. Alex Wilson got the win in relief, and Justin Wilson earned his second save.
The Tigers wrap up that series against the Angels in Los Angeles this afternoon. Justin Verlander will start against Alex Meyer. Pregame coverage will begin at 3:15 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3, WCCY.
The Milwaukee Brewers scored eight runs in the fifth inning, and overpowered the New York Mets 11-4 Saturday. Travis Shaw’s three-run homer was the big blow of the inning. The outburst rescued Milwaukee starter Zach Davies, who struggled through five innings, giving up four runs on seven hits.
The Brewers conclude that series against the Mets this afternoon. Wily Peralta will pitch against Jacob deGrom.
NHL
The Ottawa Senators opened the NHL Eastern Conference final with a 2-1 overtime victory over the Pittsburgh Penguins Saturday night. That series continues tomorrow.
The Western Conference final continue tonight, as the Ducks host the Predators. Nashville leads that series 1-0.
NBA
In the NBA playoffs, the Wizards and Celtics are tied 3-3 in the sole remaining conference semifinal, which will conclude tomorrow night.
Keweenaw Roller Girls
The Keweenaw Roller Girls will opened their roller derby season with a 261-65 loss to the Chippewa Valley Roller Girls Saturday night. They will host the Shipwreck Alley Rollers from Alpena on June 10th.
