The Keweenaw Natural Areas has added to its more than 1100 acres to its conservation properties. The Keweenaw Natural Areas has recently closed on a purchase of 550 feet of shoreline along the Great Sand Bay. The shoreline addition adds to the adjacent Michigan Nature Association Redwyn Dunes Preserve. KNA will allow public access during daylight hours and does not require a fee to visit. The group does ask that those visiting the nearby conservation lands avoid camping, and setting up campfires, and Keweenaw Natural Resources reminds the public that entering the water is swimming at your own risk. Over the next year, Keweenaw Natural Areas will need to raise the remaining 34,200 dollars of the 342,000-dollar purchase. 90 percent of the land purchase was funded by an anonymous KNA member donation. Keweenaw Natural Areas will begin to post signage in the area in 2024.
