Keweenaw Land Trust and Visit Keweenaw will Celebrate Earth Day with a Planting Party Today

A regular tradition to celebrate Earth Day each year starts with planting a tree.

This year to celebrate Earth Day the Keweenaw Land Trust and Visit Keweenaw will ask for volunteers to repot over a thousand native plant seedlings. The seedlings are a part of the KLT Nursery that the group plans to plant later this spring and summer in natural areas throughout the region. Replanting native plant species in the wild will help increase biodiversity that has been lost to the spread of invasive species.

Keweenaw Land Trust and Visit Keweenaw asks that volunteers come prepared to get a little dirty, also suggesting dressing for the weather as the group will work outside. As a thank you to volunteers KLT and Visit Keweenaw will provide participants with a take-home seedling and opportunities for Land Trust and Visit Keweenaw swag.

Organizers plan to hold the seedling event rain or shine starting at 1 pm. Volunteers will meet at the KLT Office at 49902 Limerick Street, in Hancock.
