For much longer than 26 years the Keweenaw County sheriff has protected and served their communities. And during the holiday season service means more this time of year. Since 1998 the sheriff’s department has worked with community partners to make sure no kid goes without a Christmas.
So this is a program that started at the Sheriff’s Office in 1998. So this year will be our 26th year of running the program. The program first started as a community relations and it started small and it’s grown into something that’s a great part of the community at this time of the year. – Curt Pennala, Keweenaw County Sheriff, Keweenaw County Sheriff’s Office
The program has delivered joy to kids and families with gifts for infants to students graduating high school.
The program is tailored for the child. So what we get is a list, you know, maybe that the parent would make out or the child would make out asking for something specific. So we cover both the wants and needs of the children. So it’s a tailored program. So, you know, whatever is on their list, we try to fulfill that. – Curt Pennala, Keweenaw County Sheriff, Keweenaw County Sheriff’s Office
Keweenaw County Sheriff Curt Pennala says the program supports between 30 and 40 families each year.
That could be anywhere from seventy-five to a hundred children this year was about average. I think we’re running at getting close to thirty families right now i think we’ll hit thirty families by the end of the year. – Curt Pennala, Keweenaw County Sheriff, Keweenaw County Sheriff’s Office.

This year marks the 26th year of the Keweenaw Sheriff No Kid Without a Christmas program. Each year the program helps between 75-100 children, who without the support of their community may not have a Christmas to remember. At the Sheriff’s Office, we have had the privilege of delivering all these gifts and seeing the tears of joy in the families that gratefully receive much-needed support.
This year our families need help more than ever…
