Keweenaw County Commission Meets The Keweenaw Heartlands New Project Manager

The Nature Conservancy (TNC) Michigan Director of Policy, Rich Bowman, stopped in at Keweenaw County’s commission meeting to introduce the board to the Keweenaw Heartlands new project manager. Julia Petersen will lead The Nature Conservancy’s team over the next year as the conservation group collect data on cultural sites, natural resources and more within the 38,000 acre Heartlands. Petersen will be introduced to the community later today in Eagle Harbor at 4 pm.

In relation to the Keweenaw Heartlands the board of commissioners approved a letter of support for trail easement agreements within the heartlands between TNC, the Keweenaw ATV Club and the DNR to secure the Keweenaw trail system.

Keweenaw county will appoint Bob Pokorski and reappoint John Parsons to the county planning commission.

The Keweenaw County Search and Rescue was awarded approximately 5,200 dollars from Visit Keweenaw as a part of its Destination Development grant program. The Keweenaw Search and rescue will use the grant to purchase eight GPS communication devices for portable use in the field.
