The Keweenaw Community Foundation has announced the recipients of the fall 2023 grant cycle. In total, the foundation will award 65,000 dollars in grants to 22 different organizations from nine grant programs. The Kellogg Endowment fund will support eight causes with 15,000 dollars in funding total. Another large grant comes from the Copper Shores Community Health Foundation Community Wellness and Outdoor Recreation fund will support projects and programs with Equipment Loans from the Keweenaw, the City of Houghton, the Community Alliance for Progressive Education, and the Houghton Portage Township High School JROTC with a total of 25,266 dollars in funds. Some of the other grant programs awarded by the Keweenaw Community Foundation for the fall 2023 grant cycle include the Funding Youth Initiatives Fund, The Joe Freed Fund, the Environmental Fund, The David Wiitanen and Slim MacLean Memorial Youth Hockey Fund, the Keweenaw Cross Country Endowment, Houghton County Historical Preservation, and the Portage Lake Youth Endowment Fund.
