Keweenaw Co-Op celebrated opening its Quincy Street doors for the first time in October. But at the end of the week, the member-owned grocer invites the community to check out the new location during a grand opening celebration. For 50 years the co-op has helped source fresh and healthy ingredients residents will use while cooking delicious meals.
The Keweenaw Co-Op began formulating plans to move from Ethel Street a few years ago. But did not begin making those plans public, and begin raising capital funds, until 2021. Operations manager Denise Hansen Says that the Co-Op wanted to find a way to stay in Hancock because of the relationships the company has developed with residents, city leaders, and the Hancock business community.
We live on a hill, and all of the Keweenaw is on a mountain one way, shape form, or another. But this opportunity became available. The nice thing about this building is that there’s a front entrance so all of our customers can enjoy a front entrance. We have a back entrance for employees and we can have a loading dock. So we no longer have to interrupt the customer experience with the operations of bringing in new products and things like that. – Denise Hansen, Retail and Operations Manager, Keweenaw Co-Op
On Saturday 97.7 the Wolf and morning show host Kevin Ericson will set up a remote show. During the day those listening on the radio can hear about the co-op’s new space, and employees, and learn about various prize raffles taking place during the grand opening.
There’ll be prizes, there’ll be a lot of tastings, there’ll be a lot of sales, there’ll be a lot of deals. There’s just a lot of fun and excitement and showing off now that we, again, have our groove and we know what we’re doing. Just showing off everything that we have for everybody around. – Denise Hansen, Retail and Operations Manager, Keweenaw Co-Op
The grand opening for the Keweenaw CO- Op at 610 Quincy Street will begin at 11 am on Saturday.
