The Keweenaw Chamber of Commerce has recently announced the list of local residents and organizations nominated for this year’s Sparkplug Awards. The award ceremony will take place next month, and the Sparkplug Awards committee will begin considering all nominations carefully. The Sparkplug Awards committee is comprised of a panel of representatives from the four organizations that put the event together each year; the Keweenaw Chamber of Commerce, Keweenaw Economic Development Alliance, Keweenaw Young Professionals, and the Portage Health Foundation. There are more than 100 people and groups nominated for the only eight awards. The Customer Service Award includes the most nominations with 30 individuals or groups. Some notable nominations include Deb Mann for Contributor of the Year, Hancock’s Dog Park and the Houghton Pier projects for Project of the Year, and ten individuals nominated for First Responder of the Year. The Sparkplug Awards will take place on March 2nd at 5:30 pm. Tickets for the event are available online at the Chamber of Commerce’s website. An individual ticket costs 50 dollars, a table will cost 400 dollars.
