The Keweenaw Area Community Foundation has donated 12,000 dollars to the Portage Lake District Library to increase meeting spaces in the community. The foundation recognizes the need for open, free meeting spaces for groups in the region to make plans for throughout the year. The Foundation has donated 12,200 dollars to the library from its community impact fund.
The library will use the money for the creation of three new meeting spaces and improvements to the existing community room. Two of the meeting spaces have been completed, and a third will be available after October 23rd. The Small Trailside Room seats two people, while the Big Trailside Room fits a small group of eight people. The West End Conference room which will open later this month, seats up to 16 people. Improvements made to the community room allowed the library to increase its capacity to 50 people.
