KEDA’s Mission Remains the Same To Support Economic Development in the Copper Country

The Keweenaw Economic Development Alliance remains committed to furthering economic revitalization in the Keweenaw Peninsula. In 2015 the organization created a strategic action plan, that was originally planned for a review in 2020. KEDA Executive Director Jeff Ratcliffe says he and others have since worked to review KEDA’s plan in full.

The vision of KEDA remains the same; To engage community leadership to start, retain, grow, and attract companies that will increase the prosperity of the region through a holistic and collaborative strategy that builds upon assets and opportunities present in the region.

Ratcliffe noted that from 2022 to 2023 the region continues to grow, and build upon a diverse economic backbone that features a robust visitor economy, several tech and engineering companies, flourishing downtown taking advantage of state redevelopment programs, and large investments in infrastructure and place-making. As well as seeing regional population growth an increased number of remote workers and climate refugees seeking out the Copper Country. Ratcliffe says that one of the largest challenges the region faces tackles the balancing act of economic development and an opposition mindset to quick growth. Another challenge KEDA hopes to help with solutions on deals with new housing developments.
