The Keweenaw Bay Indian community receives a federal grant to help support services focused on addressing violent crime. Late last month the U.S. Attorney General of the West Michigan district, Mark Totten, announced that several tribes in the state of Michigan will receive funds as a part of the Comprehensive strategy for reducing violent crime. The strategy was instituted by U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland in May 2021. To harness federal resources as a multiplier with state local and tribal law enforcement. Us Attorney Totten says his office has made fighting violent crime a top priority and is happy to see grant funds address critical needs for Michigan tribal communities to prevent and prosecute violent crime. The Keweenaw Bay Indian community will receive a little more than 536,000 dollars from the 2023 COPS Office C-TAS awards.
