Law enforcement and firefighters are familiar with the Negaunee Regional Communication Center from one end of the line. More commonly referred to as dispatch, the center routes 911 calls and coordinates responses as needed to various emergencies.
Three members of the Keweenaw Bay Fire Department got to tour the facility last Thursday. Chief Diane Morin, Assistant Chief Garrick Lamb, and Captain Jake Putala shadowed 911 operators and staff in an attempt to better communications between the two sides.
“As firefighters, we regularly communicate with NRCC dispatchers,” KBFD Chief Diane Morin
stated. “We really enjoyed getting to put names to the voices and learning how the Center
operates behind the scenes.”
The NRCC is responsible for a wide swath of the northern Upper Peninsula. They handle calls from Schoolcraft County west to Gogebic, along with the Keweenaw Peninsula.
