Schools around the Copper Country have begun classes. Kids are cracking open the books, and teachers are picking up the best piece of chalk for the board. Over the school year, the Portage Health Foundation is recognizing educators who go above and beyond the call of the classroom and help create strong supportive environments for their students. The foundation’s first winner this month is Calumet-Laurium Keweenaw Schools Teacher, John Croze. Croze received two nominations from students. The Portage Health Foundation has committed to recognizing superior educators in the Copper Country. The foundation will recognize a new teacher in the region on the first and fifteenth each month, throughout the school year. Any teacher working in Baraga, Houghton, Keweenaw or Ontonagon counties is eligible for a Superior Educator award with the Portage Health Foundation.
