A Michigan Tech Associate Professor has been awarded the 2023 Alan Berman Research Publication Award by the U.S. Naval Research Laboratory. Jason Harman, an associate professor with the Department of Cognitive and Learning Sciences, and his co-authors were recently awarded the Alan Berman Research Publication Award for their work Visual Preferences in Map Label Placement. The award recognizes the best publications for each division of the Naval Research Laboratory. Harman and co-authors had their research published by Discover Psychology in September 2023. The study pioneers the use of cognitive decision-making models teaming up with map generation algorithms to quickly produce effective digital map displays.
