Isle Royale’s Horne Fire is 75 percent contained. Park staff are continuing to fight the wildfire that started August 10th with a strike of lightning. The national park has received assistance from the Hiawatha National Forest, Bureau of Indian Affairs and the Virginia Department of Forestry. The Horne Fire has burned a total of 429 acres on the east end of the island. And some campsites, trails and docks still remain closed, though park staff have reopened some areas of the park over the weekend.
