September celebrates National Wilderness Month. Recently the Isle Royale National Park introduced a new online way to experience the wilderness of the park. Even when you can’t get to the island in person. The Isle Royale Wilderness Adventure simulates a 50 mile backpacking or paddling trip across the island over five days and challenges users to decide situations common to backpackers and paddlers in the park. The Choose Your Adventure online experience is part of a larger expansion of kid-friendly content on the Isle Royale Park website. In addition to the wilderness adventure, that new content includes wilderness adventure training to educate kids on topics related to the park’s habitats, wildlife, and Leave No Trace principles. Those interested in learning more about the Isle Royale Wilderness Adventure online simulations and other additions to the park’s website can find more details here.
