Statues are up. Scores are in. And results are being tallied up by the Blue Key Honor Society. This morning several judges made up of local community leaders, and Michigan Tech faculty set out to walk around campus and begin judging snow statues in the all-nighter competition and the month-long statues. Over the past few weeks, many were worried about how detailed students would be able to get given the warm temperatures and lack of regular snowfall. However, students finished ironing on the final details well into this morning’s early hours. And the statutes look great.
From the Phi Kappa Tau fraternity’s grand statue in front of the house in Hancock to the smallest tree made of snow on campus. Students took their time to get every last bit of detail into their statues as much as possible. While walking past Michigan Tech’s academic buildings you’ll find a snowman taking a surf, a summertime husky hanging out the window of a jeep, and plenty more creative and unique snow statue ideas. Visitors may even take a photo with Kermit on a log or with a mermaid near the Hamer House. Those interested in the 2024 snow statue winners can find more information below.
