Hundreds Enjoy Food from Around the World at the Dee Stadium

Hundreds of Huskies and a few more community members lined up through Hancock and Houghton over the weekend to celebrate an international culture meeting in the Keweenaw Peninsula. The Parade of Nations this year saw around thirty-five countries from around the globe represented by Michigan Tech’s international students, and ethnic and cultural groups from around the area.

The parade procession led the community to the Dee Stadium for the multicultural festival, where attendees tasted various dishes from various international student groups. More than twenty tables were set up around the rink, sharing international cuisines such as Chicken Korma a curry dish from Bangladesh, and baklava served with Persian tea from Iran. The Keweenaw Bay Indian community took the front stage first, with a traditional dance and drums. The local Kivajat dances followed Keweenaw Bay Indian Community and shared traditional Finnish dances.
