The City of Houghton will temporarily re open some of the parking on Lakeshore Drive today.
The east end of the new parking lot will reopen for the public to use, with temporary striping allowing for 56 parking spots. A road closed sign will be placed at Huron Street to block off the west end where other work is taking place. To use the temporary parking lot, travel west on Lakeshore Drive from Huron Street, through the gate and enter the lot through the curb opening just past Swift’s Hardware. Leaving the lot will take vehicles in the opposite direction along the same route.
City Manager Eric Waara says the temporary lot should be available until paving begins sometime in September. The city will enforce the lot as a two hour time limit parking lot. Anyone with valid daytime parking permit can also park in the temporary lot.
