Houghton Sets Aside $125,000 If Awarded a Community Center Grant to Make Improvements to Dee Stadium

Houghton will plan to set aside 125,000 dollars toward the city’s match portion for a community center grant that will seek to make improvements at the Dee Stadium. The city plans to submit paperwork to the Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity for its Community Center Grant Program. Which allows municipalities to seek up to 2.5 million dollars in funding for development or improvements to a community center.

Proposed improvements to the Dee, would install an elevator, and improve the structure’s climate control, as well as other additions, are estimated by the city to cost a little under 2.3 million dollars. The 125,000 dollars represents a five percent match for the proposed project. If the city is awarded the community center grant, Houghton will seek to have to match funds added to the city’s 2024-25 budget.
