Houghton-Portage Township Schools Hosts the Second Community Forum for Elevating Education in Houghton Tomorrow Evening

Houghton Portage Township Schools will host its second Elevating Education community forum tomorrow evening. District Superintendent Anders Hill says more than 40 people in the community attended last week’s first session reviewing the district’s history and recent growth. He says that these sessions are important to the district’s understanding of the needs and desires of the community when it comes to the education of the future of the Houghton community. The second session will help formulate different ideas for the district to consider especially as it relates to space and facilities.

“It’s important to us, to our board and myself that in addition to elevating education, that we’re accountable to our taxpayers and making sure that if we do settle on an ask of our taxpayers and voters, that it’s something that they see the value in. And so We’re not really kind of at that point where we can say this is the option we have moving forward but, you know, those are the tenets of the discussion are elevating education, you know, managing our growth and then being accountable to taxpayers.” – Anders Hill, Superintendent, Houghton – Portage Township Schools

Over the past decade, the district has seen many more students roaming the halls than in the past. As the district continues to look forward into the future of education it will need to consider how it will need to improve the use of space and facilities to fit the needs of students. The second elevating education for all gremlins session will take place in the Houghton High School library at 6 pm tomorrow. Find more details here.
