Houghton-Portage Township Schools Approves Ski and Swim Co-Op

Skiers and swimmers from 6 schools in the area are joining forces for a co op in both sports. Houghton Portage Township Schools approved the co op between themselves, Hancock, Jeffers, Lake Linden-Hubbell, Chassell and Dollar Bay for high school skiing and swimming. Additionally, with the school year wrapping up quickly, school administrators are very happy with how students are performing both in and outside the classroom.

Our high school robotics team went to the world championship in Houston. And we have high school students heading to Texas for the Business Professionals of America national championship event. And we’re really proud of how our students are doing. State testing is going on. And the High School has a play this weekend. – Anders Hill, Superintendent, Houghton-Portage Township Schools

The school board also approved the purchase of a new elementary reading series for the district. The reading series was last updated back in 2011. And the new reading series will bring the district up to date with their online materials. Elementary students have performed well during state reading comprehension testing over the last few years.The board also approved a new contract with U.P. Janitorial, for clean up in the schools. The high school play this weekend, mentioned by Superintendent Anders Hill, will be the Wizard of Oz.
