Houghton Police Warn Residents of an Email Scam

City of Houghton Police warn residents of an email scam targeting the community. The police department has received multiple reports of an email scam that some people have recently received.

The email demands the receiver pay a sum of money in the form of bitcoin. The department notes that these emails include some personal information like a person’s name, address, and telephone number. Law enforcement adds that at NO point after receiving a suspicious email should you send money, gift cards, or bitcoin to the other party.
